Specializing in Mac solutions L OS ANGELES — Systems integra- tion provider and technology reseller MelroseTEC (www.mel- rosemac.com), with three locations in LA, works with a wide variety of clien- tele, ranging from film and TV studios to post houses. Because the majority of MelroseTEC's clients are referral-based, typical engagements revolve around a pre-determined need regarding a spe- cific client project. "We find that most often clients come to us with fore-knowledge of an upcoming project, so their question is: 'Is this something you can do,' rather than looking for us to custom create a solu- tion," says Sandy Nasseri, founder of MelroseTEC. "However, there are times, especially with start-up clients, where we will take on the role of designing the solution proactively." MelroseTEC's relationship with clients is a mutual collaboration. The client will assess the project beforehand and pro- vide MelroseTEC with a breakdown of what is needed and steps to move for- ward. As with any process though, there are glitches that must be corrected and alterations in the design of a system to optimize performance. MelroseTEC builds all of the systems it delivers in- house, where they are tested, before installing them at a client's facility. They also provide training to the client's staff following the installation. Keeping current on technology is a constant challenge for any reseller, and MelroseTEC sets the expiration date on any tech system at a three-year cycle. The company regularly attends industry trade events to keep track of latest develop- ments (Nasseri also sits on the Apple Resellers Board), and tries to advise cli- ents to wait for the newest upgrades whenever possible. However, when a project deadline makes that an impossi- bility, the newest, most upgrade-friendly system is recommended. MelroseTEC also provides its clients with a trade-in program to help keeping pace cost- friendly. For more on Resellers as well as Rental Houses, see our feature on page 38. You Can't Grade What You Can't See. Most Broadcast and Professional Monitors are 8-bit displays. That means they can reproduce only 16.7 Million Colors. However, a 10 or 12 bit video camera captures at least 1.07 Billion Colors. So, when you edit or grade on an 8-bit monitor, you are only seeing a fraction of the possible colors contained in true 10/12-bit content . TVLogic's 24" true 10-bit XVM-245W has been regarded by many as the most accurate LCD monitor available. Now, we've introduced two NEW 10-bit additions to the family - the XVM-175W and XVM- 325W. With full HD (1920x1080) native resolution, high-purity RGB LED (XVM-175W/245W) and Wide- Gamut EEFL (XVM-325W) backlight sytems, and integrated 3D LUTs - all three models in the XVM-Series are ideal for color critical applications yet retain all of the broadcast features found in our popular LVM Series. Add standard dual-link and 3G 4:4:4 input + support for import and export of popular color grading application LUT formats and TVLogic's XVM-Series let's you see ALL that you've been missing. 1-855-TVLOGIC (1-855-885-6442) sales@tvlogicusa.com www.tvlogicusa.com See the other 1,056,964,608 Colors You've Been Missing C M Y CM MY CY CMY K XVM-245W XVM-325W XVM-175W www.postmagazine.com Post • August 2012 11
