SAG-AFTRA HONORS DAVID HARTLEY-MARGOLIN WITH HOWARD KEEL AWARD S AG-AFTRA's Committee of Locals awarded its highest honor, the Howard Keel Award, to David Hartley-Margolin for his significant contributions to the union. Hartley-Margolin was presented the award at the Oct. 14 Committee of Locals meeting in Los Angeles. The award, which was created in 2003, is named after the late actor and singer Howard Keel, who served as the Screen Actors Guild's 10th president from 1958–1959. Keel, a proponent of merger with AFTRA, expanded SAG's national board from 39 to 52 seats, which for the first time allowed for local representation from New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Detroit and Boston. "I am thrilled to congratulate my friend and colleague David Hartley-Margolin on this well-deserved recognition," said SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris. "I admire his many contributions to the union and his service to the membership. David embodies the spirit and meaning of the Howard Keel Award." "[Keel's] recognition of the importance of the membership living and working outside California to a national union has, in no small part, led to the very existence of today's Committee of Locals. I am proud, humbled and grateful to the Committee of Locals for this singular honor," said Hartley-Margolin. Hartley-Margolin currently serves as SAG-AFTRA's vice president, small locals, a position he has held since 2012. His previous union service includes third vice president, Screen Actors Guild 2008–2012; national vice president, AFTRA 2001–2007; national board member, SAG 2007–2012; national board member, AFTRA 1987–2001; and Colorado Branch president, SAG 1997–2001.
