IBC NEWS www.postmagazine.com 15 POST OCTOBER 2016 AUTODESK SHOWS FLAME 2017 EXTENSION 1 SAN RAFAEL, CA — At IBC, Autodesk (www.autodesk.com) an- nounced Flame 2017 family extension 1 release for professional 3D visual effects, compositing and finishing. The update includes new 3D scene navigation features and enhancements, collaborative workflow enhancements for working with Autodesk and third-party 3D animation tools, a new way of working with multichannel (EXR) render passes, render quality improvements, better color man- agement and batch compositing enhancements, including a new compass tool. "With this Flame extension, we've added intuitive navigation for artists who are new to the product, along with a host of features to make navigating 3D scenes much simpler and in line with Autodesk Maya 3D workflows," says Marc Stevens, VP of film and television at Autodesk. "Many other new features, including better color management and batch tools, are a direct response to some of our most popular user requests." New "Maya inspired" 3D scene navigation and manipulators make action more fluid for modeling, selecting geometries and modifying complex scenes. Compatibility has been improved with Maya and third-party 3D animation software through an .FBX scene export feature. Flame artists can now export complex projects — including geometries, deformed surfaces and textures as well as object ani- mation and timing — facilitating more collaborative workflows. Pipeline integration has been enhanced for color management, pipeline compositing and multi-channel clips. Upgraded action render quality enables artists to texture and light 3D scenes with creative flair and technical accuracy. Extension 1 combines the latest techniques in physi- cally-based rendering with core lighting and texturing tools, and includes 60 new Algorithmic sub- stance textures. Extension 1 is scheduled for release on October 13th. NUGEN AUDIO LAUNCHES AUDIO MANAGEMENT BATCH PROCESSOR LEEDS, UK — Nugen Audio (www.nu- genaudio.com) has launched the 'AMB' Audio Management Batch processor, a suite of modular software that will expedite a range of audio management tasks. AMB is a new solution that is intended to radically expand on the concept of Nugen Audio's loudness management batch processing tech- nology for high-speed audio loud- ness measurement and correction. AMB enables post facilities to speed workflows significantly and reduce delivery times for a range of different tasks, such as upmixing and loudness management. AMB also offers new features, including threaded algorithm processing and multiple processing threads that are addressable for simul- taneous parallel handling of files and queues. "Our loudness processing is the fastest in its class, offering a highly-ef- ficient and cost-effective batch-file solution that meets audio profession- als' most demanding requirements," says Jon Schorah, founder and creative director, Nugen Audio. "AMB significantly increas- es these capabilities to give customers batch processing options for more of our award-winning, workflow-enhancing technologies." AMB offers scalability, allowing post facilities of all sizes to add the precise processing modules they need and tailor the system to their exact requirements. AMB comes standard with two watch folders/processing queues. If users need extra power and speed, the AMB Queue Expansion provides additional watch folders/ processing queues. A total of up to 16 AMB Queue Expansions can be added. As standard, the base AMB module also includes two independent pro- cessing threads that optimize work- flows by allowing two simultaneous processes to run in parallel. For even greater speed and efficiency, users can add the AMB Thread Expansion to activate additional processing threads up to a total of 16. Existing Nugen Audio LMB proces- sor users can upgrade for an introduc- tory price of $249.
