When you put them side by side, one could argue, even though their raw materials differ, the commonalties between a fine artist and a distiller far outweigh their dissimilarities. We invited Los Angeles and San Francisco area female bartenders to an afternoon full of masterpieces, both on the walls of the muse- ums and in glasses full of Auchentoshan Single Malt Whisky. After checking out The Broad, the recently opened contemporary art museum in Downtown Los Angeles, and seeing the works of artists including Barbara Kruger, Jeff Koons and Andy Warhol, our group of female whisk(e)y enthusiasts sipped on a Sweet Tea Julep featuring Auchentoshan American Oak. Once refreshed, it was time for the bar- tenders to make their own artwork at the coaster carving and cocktail creation station. If the guests needed inspiration and guidance while building their concoctions, they had an expert on hand—Robin Nance, National Brand Ambassador for Auchentoshan Single Malt Scotch—to walk them through a tasting of the Auchentoshan 12 Year Old, 18 Year Old and Three Wood, which is aged in American bourbon, oloroso Sherry and Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks. "The smooth flavor of Auchentoshan brings new people into drinking Scotch," said Nance. "While women have been drinking Scotch far more than they are given credit for, this portfolio has a way of making everyone feel comfortable with a single malt—it's a genderless whisky. And as we saw today, it also doesn't hurt that the brand works beautifully in cocktails." The afternoon proved that Scotch, just like the work of Koons or Kruger, fits seamlessly into the contemporary era. —Emily Coleman Robin Nance, National Ambassador for Auchentoshan Single Malt Scotch.
