REVIEW www.postmagazine.com 47 POST AUGUST 2016 Premiere Pro timeline playhead jump to that position to speed the revision process even more. All this is great, but what about versioning? We all know how some projects can go on and on into dozens of versions with minor changes in each one. Frame.IO has auto-versioning, which allows you to concentrate on just making changes without worrying about whether you're sending version 33 or version 34. WIPSTER Wipster hails from the land perhaps best known for having more sheep than people: New Zealand. Vimeo users are probably already familiar with Wipster, since the app has had a close relationship with the popular video streaming site since early 2016. Wipster offers a Web interface and a dedicated Premiere Pro panel, while mobile apps are currently in development. Wipster's philosophy of how the review process should work is summed up by their CEO, Rollo Wenlock, "The content is the canvas." This state- ment champions the idea that the feed- back should remain directly tied to and closely integrated into the project. The workflow of Wipster is similar to Frame.IO, but there are some key dif- ferences. Wipster allows you to choose from their pre-built Adobe Media Encoder presets, or you can roll your own outside of Premiere Pro. Wipster launches AME and runs the encode in the background, giving you an elegant, green progress circle inside of the Premiere Pro panel to keep you abreast of wait times. Once the encode is complete, the upload begins. Like Frame.IO, your client will receive an email with access to your uploaded video and the ability to begin commenting. Both Wipster and Frame. IO have no requirement for any account creation in order to comment or collab- orate on a project. Comments made in the Web app will generate notifications to you, as the editor, and will show up as markers in the Wipster panel as well as the Premiere Pro timeline. Should anyone need more access to a project, you can add a user to a project's folder, allowing them to see all the avail- able versions that have been uploaded. If less access is what you want, then both Frame.IO and Wipster have more granu- lar control over project access. There are toggles to control whether a collaborator can download a file, invite others to com- ment or share links. While there are plenty of ways to maximize the usefulness of the dedicated Premiere Pro panels offered by Wipster and Frame.IO, one of the best ways may be to use Premiere's built-in "markers" panel. Enabling this panel in conjunction with either of these collaboration apps allows you to see a frame thumbnail, the name of the com- menter and their comment. Working this way gives you a straightforward "at- a-glance" view of the task list of changes to make. And who doesn't love a check- list, right? PRICING Both Wipster and Frame.IO are new companies with continually-evolving products. Along with evolving products comes an evolving pricing structure. Although both products had a limited free version in the past, Wipster has since moved to paid plans only. In addition to several pricing plans, both companies offer enterprise plans for larger organizations that need larger capacity and fluidity in their numbers of users from month to month. CONCLUSION After using both Frame.IO and Wipster for several weeks, I have yet to come up with a category of editor that wouldn't be able to use something like this. For this editor, apps like these are a God- send. For years, I've been going the old-fashioned route of sending disks or uploading low-resolution files for client review. The amount of time and confu- sion that products like these mitigate is enough to make them worth your consideration and your cash.
