BUTT, BONER, FART … let's just get those out of the way now, because they aren't typical words you would see in The Artisan magazine. Swiss Army Man is a special fi lm that's NOT for everyone. If you get past the uncomfortable feelings associated with those topics, you'll see a project that beams with heart. Developed in the Sundance fi lm lab and helmed by the writer/direc- tor duo, the Daniels (Kwan & Scheinert, who were known for their short fi lms and brilliant music video "Turn Down for What"), Swiss Army Man was THE most anticipated fi lm at Sundance this year. Opening to a packed house in the largest theater, the audience knew little about the fi lm other than it starred Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe, who plays a dead guy. In the fi rst fi ve minutes, Dano (Hank) escapes a deserted island by rid- ing the bloated corpse of Radcliffe (Manny) propelled by his farts. BY JASON HAMER DEPARTMENT HEAD MAKE-UP 24
