W hen Edward Belden worked at an ice cream shop in high school, he realized it's one of the few jobs where your number-one goal is to make people happy. He opened his own bicycle-churned ice cream shop a little more than three years ago. Belden defines success as, "Not just profit for business, but profit for people and for the planet." Although Peddler's Creamery isn't certified as a B Corp yet, Belden has a background in environmental sustainability and looks for ways to reduce the company's impact. "We actively seek out Fair Trade products and use only organic ingredients in the shop. e reason we do that is to try to reduce our footprint as much as possible, and protect the resources we value." e shop also donates five percent of its profits to social and environmental causes. "Being that we're a bicycle-churned ice cream business, we really like to support groups that promote active lifestyles. Some of those groups include the L.A. County Bicycling Coalition and CicLAvia. ey encourage people to get outside and enjoy life, while re-energizing downtown." As the business name suggests, every batch of Peddler's Cream- ery ice cream is churned by peddling a bike for about 20 minutes. Belden says, "Employees do a lot of the batch making, but if a customer wants to come in and help churn a batch, they're more than welcome to do that, and they get a scoop for free for making a batch with us." Sounds like a sweet deal. PEDDLER'S CREAMERY EDWARD BELDEN, FOUNDER Interested in starting a B Corp of your own? Want to work for a company that's making the world a better place?
