POSTINGS: BROADCAST DESIGN www.postmagazine.com 40 POST JUNE 2016 FOX SPORTS CELEBRATES GOLF'S 'YOUNG GUNS' LOS ANGELES — Fox Sports and Mocean (http://mocean.tv) recently part- nered on a "Young Guns" campaign for The US Open golf tournament. Top- ranked PGA golfers Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler appear in the promo campaign, which marks Fox Sports' second-year coverage of the June event. The campaign's driving message, "The Future Is Now," celebrates the new generation of golf superstars. The :30 spots feature rapid-fire cuts of live-action paired with dynamic design and graphics highlighting each play- er's story. Fox Sports conceived and produced the campaign in collabora- tion with Mocean. Mocean wrote, designed, edited and finished the pieces, including the sound design and music. The project was edited inside Avid Media Composer. Graphics were created using After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator, as well as Maxon Cinema 4D. Resolve was used for color. SYFY RECEIVES AUDIO REFRESH NEW YORK — Figure and Groove (www.figureandgroove.com) recently rebrand SyFy's network audio, giving it a big, ambient and modern cinematic sound without going the route of a classical orchestra. Composers Neil and Matthew de Luca collaborated on the refresh, which uses sound to create the feeling of vastness beyond the on-screen imagery, and numerous macro shots. Rather than create music that relies on a melody, the team approached the project with the goal of creating atmospheric and cinematic sounds. Because SyFy uses lots of photoreal CG imagery, Figure and Groove stayed away from synthetic sounds that would appear overly manufactured. Instead, they went with organic, natural elements. The studio created approximately 50 different elements as part of the package, including logo animations, the Syfy Studio Open, a Syfy Films track that was mixed in stereo and 5.1 for cinema use. They relied on Avid Pro Tools and Native Instruments' Kontakt 5 sample engine. NEW SHOW PACKAGE FOR FULL MEASURE WITH SHARYL ATTKISSON GREENWICH, CT — The complicated world of Washington politics is trans- formed into a graceful system of curved glass in The Brand Gallery's (www. thebrandgallery.com) main title and in-show graphics package for Sinclair Broadcast Group's new Sunday investigative news show, Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson. The design scheme employs red, white and blue tinted translucent arcs, superimposed over a stylized image of the US Capitol. The package, which builds on the on-air look of the news group, while adding new elements specific to the show, features two design concepts based on the curves and smart glass themes. Elements in the package include the main title, bumpers, lower-thirds and backgrounds, which were created using Adobe's suite, Apple's Final Cut Pro and Maxon Cinema 4D. LEFTCHANNEL DESIGNS FASHION WEEK CAMPAIGN FOR E! COLUMBUS, OH — With the success of the fall 2015 promo campaign for E! and New York Fashion Week, the network once again tapped production and motion graphics studio Leftchannel (www.leftchannel.com), headed by cre- ative director Alberto Scirocco, for an expansive new promo for Fashion Week 2016 that would draw E! viewers into the excitement of the event. Scirocco and his team were able to build on the design elements that had been created in the fall to deliver a piece that would focus on the energy and excitement of the new event, while still incorporating the design language created in 2015. The studio concepted an augmented visual rope piece, taking viewers from backstage to the city streets, to parties, and finally the runway. Shot on greenscreen at 500fps, Leftchannel used a Phantom Flex to capture footage of the models and extras. For post, they designed and composited each scene using Maya, Maxon Cinema 4D, After Effects and 3DS Max.
