Washington, D.C. Espita Mezcaleria: Certified Master Mezcalier Josh Phillips and his wife Kelly opened up this mezcal-themed restau- rant with tortillas ground and pressed in-house, over 80 different small-batch mezcals and seven different kinds of mole. Las Vegas, NV Sake Rok: Chef Bobby Silva puts a twist on Japa- nese cuisine that's part sushi, part sake and part spectacle with live shows and other entertainment. New Orleans, LA Cavan: NOLA-based LeBlanc + Smith opened up this "American coastal restaurant" that focuses largely on classic seafood dishes done well, with oysters, gumbo, and seared Gulf fish under the watchful eye of chef Ben Thibodeaux. Called the Judgment of Paris, this wine competition on saw French judges conduct two blind tasting comparisons: one of top Chardonnays and the other of Bordeaux vintages from France and Cabernet Sauvignon vintages from California. The top three winners in the red wine category were the Bay Area's Stag's Leap Wine Cellars S.L.V. 1973, Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello 1971, and Heitz Cel- lar Martha's Vineyard 1970. Today, for $125, Michelin-starred La Toque at the Westin Napa Valley will offer 3 oz. pours using the restaurant's Coravin wine preservation system of the current vintages from the winners: Stag's Leap Wine Cellars S.L.V. 2012, Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello 2012 and Heitz Cellar Martha's Vineyard 2010. Out Of The Woods & Into The Future The Elevated Cannabis Compliance Con- ference in Sonoma County, California, was attended by over 400 individuals looking to gain knowledge about the legal cannabis industry's future rules and regulations as brought forth by the three bills that make up the Medical Marijuana Regulation and Safety Act: AB-266, AB-243, and SB-643.
