Fifteen years ago the brand was created to meet a frequent request—a wine that was similar to a Moscato d'Asti DOCG, but a red instead of a white varietal. The Riboli family looked to their Italian familial connections in order to invent a new style of wine. They collected a blend of red grapes and made them into wine applying the same method used to make Moscato d'Asti DOCG, a practice that had never before been employed. The result—a slightly sweet, slightly sparkling red wine—was so successful that it ended up launching the full Stella Rosa brand, which now includes 15 different wines. Aluminum bottles are the innova- tive move from San Antonio Winery for their new release of Stella Rosa Platinum and Stella Rosa Black sparkling wines. The Riboli family founded San Antonio Winery, the oldest winery in Los Angeles, in 1917.
