J U N E 2 0 1 6 I 3 A "temporary upgrade" is when a DGA member already employed in one category on a production is then upgraded to work in another category on the same production for any period of four or fewer consecutive days. For instance, an Additional Second Assistant Director may be upgraded to work as a Second Second Assistant Director for three days, or a Second Assistant Director may be upgraded to work as a First Assistant Director for four days. Temporary upgrades must be paid at least the daily rate (1/4 of the applicable weekly studio or location rate, including 1/4 of the applicable production fee when payable) and the Employer must notify the Guild of the temporary upgrade. Whenever you are temporarily upgraded, you should review your paystub to ensure you are being paid correctly at the daily rate (rather than the pro rata rate, which is 1/5 of the applicable weekly studio or location rate). The difference between what you are owed at the daily rate versus the pro rata rate can quickly add up. If you have any questions, or if you have discovered instances in which you believe you were paid incorrectly, please contact the DGA's Contracts Department at (310) 289-2010 for assistance. To be eligible to work in Southern California, you must take a Safety Pass Training class. Upon successful completion, members will regain eligibility status on the applicable lists. If you are a new addition, you should make a point of taking the first available Safety Pass class offered once you are placed. It is your responsibility to ensure you have completed this class or you will not be eligible to work in Southern California. photo by Tonya Wise Please arrive 30 minutes early to register and have your Safety Pass Card photo taken. Walk-ins are not permitted. Anyone five minutes late or more will not be admitted. The Directors Guild-Producer Training Plan is offering a stipend to attendees of this training. Upon successful completion of the DGA course, members may also take — on a strictly voluntary basis — any other safety training course offered by CSATTF in Los Angeles. The Guild encourages all members to take advantage of these courses. As with Safety Pass, a member's completion of such courses is noted on his or her Qualifications List or Eligibility List profile. For a comprehensive list and schedule of courses, visit www.csatf.org. To enroll for any other courses offered by CSATTF, call Safety Pass at (818) 847-0040. When the automated system picks up, press "1" to register for a course.
