We place students at the center of their own education. Whether you're completing an unfinished degree, seeking an advanced degree to further your professional development, or fulfilling a lifetime goal, we have the academic program to match your needs, schedule, and aspirations. Union Institute & University is in its 52nd year of educating highly motivated adults who seek academic programs to engage, enlighten, and empower them to pursue professional goals and a lifetime of learning, service, and social responsibility. Recently, we interviewed some of our students to gather some tips & advice on how they juggle school alongside life responsibilities. TIPS FOR BALANCING YOUR LIFE AS A STUDENT Future - Remind yourself what you want your future to look like. Ask yourself the tough questions: Will I leave a legacy? Am I walking in my purpose? Goals - Write down your goals and dreams and put them in a jar. At the end of the year, empty the jar and see how much you have accomplished. Read every day - Schedule daily study time and you will be amazed how much progress can be made. Take care of yourself - Maintenance of the body, mind and spirit can prevent major breakdowns on the academic highway. Involve your loved ones - If you sacrifice family and friends to academia, your journey will be hard and lonely. Communicate to your supporters what you need – meals, chores, a hug – and thank them with what limited free time you have. Be brave - Don't be intimidated. Let your opinions be known. The professors are there to help you, not criticize you. Fellow students – Get interested in the work of one other student in the class so that you want to know what they have posted. It will help you stay motivated. Exercise daily – Even if you are only able to do simple stretches, it counts. Freedom – The degree you are seeking is freedom. Freedom to help others in your job. The freedom that your education is now catching up to your life experience. The freedom to make new friends in class and different parts of the country. The freedom to learn from different points of view. Have fun – Despite all of the hard work, learning is fun. Take advantage of the experience and have fun while you grow.
