July 4 Independence Day - Offices Closed July 12-15 Summer Leaders - Denver WYOMING EDUCATION ASSOCIATION POSITION POSTING Position Posting: Southwest Region UniServ Director (Organizer) Position Category: Professional Staff Position Location: Southwest UniServ Office, Rock Springs, WY Position Description: The essential functions of the position include assisting local affiliates and WEA members in organization and program development through visitation, diagnosis, and planning of programs designed to implement the goals of the organization, strengthen and improve the welfare of members and enhance the educational climate. Advocacy and representation for members on a wide array of issues; developing and executing local association programs for membership, public relations, political action, member rights, organizational and leadership development; working collaboratively with governance and staff to implement national and state association programs and priorities. Education Requirements: Bachelor's Degree Other Requirements: The position requires superior verbal and interpersonal skills, a high standard of responsiveness to member needs, a commitment to teamwork, and demonstrated problem solving abilities. Willingness to work nights and weekends and the ability to travel are essential. The position also requires a rapid learner who is adaptable to changing circumstances and competing priorities and has the ability to interact productively with diverse constituencies in a demanding and complicated environment. UniServ, organizing and advocacy experience is strongly preferred. SELECTION CRITERIA Tier 1 (Essential): Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written). Strong personal and professional characteristics such as flexibility, integrity, assertiveness, decisiveness and a sense of responsibility. Ability to motivate and organize individuals to action. Ability to build a consensus around issues. Demonstrated capacity to analyze complex issues, develop and implement programs, write appropriate reports, and make prudent recommendations. Demonstrated capacity to adapt effectively to education and organizational change. Effective organizational, teamwork and time management skills. Advocate for public education. Knowledge of current education environment, structure, and issues. Effective training and presentation skills. Tier 2 (Significant): Experience in an advocacy organization with similar goals and objectives as the WEA. Experience in any of the following areas of association work: organizing, member advocacy, collective bargaining and collaboration, conflict management and consensus building, political action and legislative activities, coalition building. Positive attitude and openness toward continual learning and self-development.
