Millennials: Can't Manage Them, Can't Manage without Them It is no secret that Millennials are a hot topic around the workplace these days— usually in the context of how seasoned colleagues think they have a complete lack of work ethic and an inflated sense of entitlement. Yikes. Maybe it's time we step away from the negatives and consider this: For all their fickle ways, Millennials may in fact be a secret weapon. We asked Kalina Napierala, People Process Leader at BevForce, to weigh in on some of the extremely valuable attributes of our up and coming colleagues. 1. They're digital natives. At the age when Generation X was just learning to ride a bike, Millennials were learning how to Snapchat their first bike ride—while on it, without falling. They're in the loop about the latest tech, new media sources and trends both on-and-offline. 2. They want to take ownership. Make no mistake about it: Millennials want to work, albeit on their own terms. They grew up in a competitive academic land- scape, and they crave responsibility and recognition. Give them more autonomous projects over time. Praise them when they succeed, coach them if they mess up and watch them grow into prized employees. 3. They've perfected work-life balance. Millennials have embraced the idea of personal growth outside the cubicle. Whether they're learning to build apps, blogging about mixology or even carving out an hour for yoga to decompress, after work is just as important to them as office hours. Their balance is your gain. Outside projects, especially beverage industry related, spark creativity and energy in the workplace. Who wouldn't want a focused, more creative team? Maybe you could take a page out of their book . . . Looking for budding Millennial talent or a career in the beverage industry?
