FOCUS ON YOUR JOB Finding and keeping a job in today's economic climate is not a simple accomplishment. You may already have a foot in the door somewhere, but maybe you're not happy with the job itself now that you've gotten inside. Don't get frustrated—turn it around. WAYS TO MAKE IT HAPPEN: • Cinching the job: If you're looking for employment and have come up empty handed so far, make sure you're hooked up with job listings such as: www.craigslist.com, www.monster.com, www.yahoohotjobs.com • The Career One Stop Center: Here's an awesome place to go—a no-fee, resource and employment center sponsored by the Department of Labor. There's one in Irvine, and others are located throughout Orange County. Go to www.careeronestop.com. • Changing the one you have: The business where you work may have cross training programs for its employees. Don't be afraid to ask. You may be able to transition into another facet of work and some places even include academic programs to help train. IMPROVE YOUR RELATIONSHIPS Here's another popular resolution--a desire to improve the relationships in our lives. Often, that includes creating a relationship where one did not exist at all. Hence, the plethora of online dating services: www.eharmony.com, www.match.com. As for established relationships, they need to be nurtured, because if a significant other, sibling, daughter, Mom or Dad are not happy with us--we are not happy either. THE PATH TO GET BACK ON TRACK • First, try to talk things out with your loved one. If that's impossible, then a Marriage and Family practitioner may be needed. Don't doubt the power of a professional when it comes to guidance and problem solving. The best medicine for a troubled marriage or love relationship is communication and the best facilitator for that may be a professional counselor. Therapists can be found through your job, your community, your doctor or your church. LEARN SOMETHING Open the door to your mind and stick something fresh in there. Resolve to learn something new in 2010. DOOR OPENING SOLUTIONS: • Go back to school, join a book club, take culinary or fencing lessons, read online news every day—just do something to unlock the power of the mind, get the creative juices flowing, or simply do it for the acquisition of knowledge itself.
