California Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet) is looking for qualified cooks, bakers, and supervisors for careers in the new kitchen at the West Los Angeles Veterans Home. "CalVet is seeking compassionate and creative individuals who care about veterans and can help us roll out our new kitchen," said Julian Manalo, Administrator at the West Los Angeles Veterans Home. "It is an exciting time to join the staff at the West LA Veterans Home." The new kitchen is nearing completion and it is time to staff it with qualified culinary workers, test our kitchen, and start serving meals to veterans living at the home. Food service will be hiring qualified cooks and supervisors immediately in preparation for the opening. Once the kitchen is up and running and completes certification new Skilled Nursing Units can be opened and more veterans can find their new home. West LA has held two job fairs this year but still has openings in clerical, food service, custodial, and numerous clinical positions. CalVet will holding another Job Fair at the home on November 18th from 9 am until 4 pm. Attendees will have an opportunity to speak directly with the CalVet Human Resources staff on "How to Get a State Job" and to take exams for Registered Dietician, Cook Specialist I & II, Food Service Supervisor I & II and Supervising Cook II. Hiring interviews will be held on November 18 or at a later date, for one or more of these classifications. Hiring at the state requires an eligibility exam prior to placement on a list. Once on a list, candidates can apply for specific job openings. The West Los Angeles Veterans Home is located at 11500 Nimitz Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90049.
