The Expedition was in honor of Tanzania's first President, Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere's efforts in tourism development and his campaign to spearhead Tanzania's inde- pendence andAfrican unity. Nyerere Day Relay Marathon,Mwanza, On December 4, the Nyerere Day Relay Marathon ran from Mwanza on Lake Victoria to Butiama Village, the birth place of the founding father of the nation, Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere, a distance of 192km. The event involved 100 runners,who ran in groups of 10 runners each. Each group ran 19 km lap. The event was organized by Capital Plus of Dar es Salaam. KENYAAIRWAYS CHIEF EXECUTIVEAPPOINTED TOIATABOARDOFGOVERNORS Dr. Titus Naikuni, group managing director and CEO of Kenya Airways, has been appointed to the International AirTravelAssociation (IATA)Board of Governors. Dr. Naikuni, who is serving on the Board for the second time, was also appointed to the 2012 Nominating Committee during theAssociation's 67th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Singapore on June 6th. IATA is an international trade body that represents, leads and serves over 230 airlines comprising 93% of sched- uled international air traffic.The Board is composed of 31 persons elected from its members, who serve without remu- neration. Their responsibilities include oversight and executive decision-mak- ing on behalf of the membership in order to provide policy directives and guidance to IATA Industry Comm- ittees, subsidiary bodies, IATA Traffic Conferences and to industry settlement plans. This appointment places Dr. Naikuni at the center of decision mak- ing for the aviation industry.
