They returned to the tournament proper in the 2010, defeating AC St. Louis 2-0 at The Home Depot Center in the Third Round before losing a week later to Seattle in the Quarterfinals. That scenario was repeated in 2011 as the Galaxy beat the L.A. Blues 2-1 in the Third Round, only to lose to the Sounders once again on the road in the quarterfinals. LA's run in the 2012 Open Cup was short-lived as they were knocked out of the competition in their first game, falling to the NASL's Carolina RailHawks in the Third Round. The Galaxy will once again enter the Open Cup at the Third Round this season, where they will be joined by 15 other MLS teams. The LA Galaxy fell to the Carolina Railhawks in the third round in 2013, and in the fifth in 2014 in Cary, North Carolina. Struggling to get the ball behind the net in both matches, the Galaxy would fall, giving the Railhawks a shutout in both matches.
