FOR MEMBERS Union Pride in 140 Characters or Less SAG members showed their union pride on Labor Day weekend, with their participation in a nationwide Tweet-a-Thon. The event highlighted the important role unions play in securing fair wages and safe working conditions, and ensuring workers' rights are safeguarded. Personalities from television, movies, music and sports joined in to help get the word out and express their gratitude to the union movement. American Rights at Work, a policy and public education organization, calculated the campaign generated 13.5 million impressions on Twitter users with 18 percent of all tweets featuring the #sagmember hashtag, like many of the tweets below. #sagmember Esai_Morales Esai Morales Best career advice: Become a #unionmember #sagmember EmilyBergl Emily Bergl @ScreenActors Proud that we are all a #unionmember in my show @algonquinNYC Happy Labor Day! ichadlowe Chad Lowe Happy #LaborDay! The agenda included a presentation by SAG staff, a lunch with SAG elected officers and staff, and a chance to chat with SAG members at the national membership meeting. Nigeria is one of the world's most prolific filmmaking nations and its industry, known colloquially as Nollywood, employs more than a million people, according to The Washington Times. The visit allowed the eight African actors to examine the way SAG is organized, including how the organization's hierarchy is structured. Actors Guild of Nigeria National President Segun Arinze Aina- Padonou said he appreciated that SAG hires administrative and legal professionals to take care of the details, freeing actors to focus on craſt. Also during the visit, Aina-Padonou recorded a video in support of a World Intellectual Property Organization treaty to protect performers' rights (see page 22). SAG's efforts to reach out to actors in other countries have created a stronger international community of actors, which benefits all in the profession.
