IBC products Cache-A adds LTFS support Cache-A (www. Cache-A.com) is showing LTFS (Lin- ear Tape Film Sys- tem) format com- patibility in its LTO- 5-based archive so- lutions at IBC, in- cluding the Pro- Cache5, Power- Cache and Prime- Cache5. Based on open source software, LTFS enables users to interchange con- tent across different operating systems, software applica- tions and physical locations. It com- bines the economy, robustness, high density and low power of tape with much of the func- tionality and usabil- ity of a hard drive. LTFS is now com- pletely integrated into the Cache-A archive appliance and customers can select the mature tar format or the new LTFS format on a tape-by-tape basis. Also, all existing Cache-A LTO-5 cus- tomers using tar can download the company's free soft- ware update and start using LTFS going forward with- out additional cost or needing to trans- fer their existing tapes. Like the tar format, LTFS pro- vides a self-describ- ing file system on an LTO cartridge. 44 Cintel shows ImageMill2 interface options — Cintel (www.cintel.co.uk), makers of film scanning solutions, is launching two new user interface options for its ImageMill2 data enhancement and restoration system at IBC. The company is also showing a number of upgrades to its Ditto Evolution 2K/4K film scanner. ImageMill2 is capable of faster-than-real- time 2K DPX file image processing and is available as a workstation with 4TB of local RAID storage, or as a plug-in PCI card. Flow is the new user interface, and includes a multi-format and multi-reso- lution project timeline; project management and library func- tions; 3D-LUT management; waveform, his- togram and vectorscope monitoring; and timecode/edgecode burn-in. Flow supports Tangent Devices control sur- faces and formats that include DPX, Arri RAW and Red R3D in any resolution, from SD to 4K. The Colourflow interface option includes all of the features found in Flow, plus primary color correction, zoom, pan, rotate scan ef- fects, blanking tools, automatic scene detec- tion, dynamic events and EDL export. The Ditto Evolution 2K/4K film scanner re- ceives a new camera option that allows for over-sampled 4K data scans. The system is also receiving film transport modifications in- volving a capstan drive, which will increase the level of shrunken and damaged film the scanner can accommodate. Sound Devices launches A/V recorder line —Sound Devices (www.sounddevices.com) is showing its new Pix audio/video recorders at IBC. Avail- able in two models — the Pix 220 and Pix 240 — the recorders can be easily con- nected to cameras via HDMI and can record QuickTime files using Apple's ProRes or Avid's DNxHD codec. These files can then be used directly in post. The Pix 240 features an HD-SDI input and simultaneous SDI and HDMI outputs. The 240 is also equipped with an Ambient Clockit timecode generator/reader with Genlock out- put for multi-camera and double-system sound apps. Additional features include digi- tal audio inputs on AES3 and an external eSATAp connection for direct connection to large SATA storage volumes. Audio circuitry for both is based on Sound Devices' 7-Series digital audio recorders. The low-noise (-128 dBu EIN), high-headroom, high-bandwidth inputs are mic/line switchable and include limiters, high-pass filters and phantom power. Both the 220 and 240 include five-inch, 800x480 pixel LCD displays that pro- vide immediate confirmation of recording, play- back, audio metering and setup menus. AMD demos high-end graphics cards — At the IBC show, AMD (www.amd.com) is giving attendees a first look at its flagship workstation-class professional graphics cards. The V7900 ($999) and V5900 ($599) deliver strong application performance in broadcast workflows and reduce the cost and complexity of immersive visualization applications such as stereo 3D. The new high-end graphics cards also improve performance for GPU-reliant applications such as Maya, 3DS Max, NX and SolidWorks. AMD is also showing its FirePro technology with part- ners that include VizRT, Ventuz and MainConcept. Its newest offerings expand on the professional graphics family, which uses its Eyefinity technology to support mul- tiple simultaneous displays from a single card, and accelerate complex 3D models at resolutions of up to 2560x1600 pixels. In addition to an extended feature set for DCI master- ing, Clipster now enables Mezzanine Format Mastering for the Interopera- ble Master Format (IMF). IMF allows rapid versioning of differ- ent distribution for- mats. It is also pos- sible to record di- rectly and losslessly in JPEG2000 file se- quences. Support for the AVC-Intra Class 200 codec has been added too. The company is also showing new versions of its SpycerBox storage solution.
