Sonicfire Pro supports FCP 7 NORTHRIDGE, CA — SmartSound Software's (www. smartsound.com) Sonicfire Pro 5 plug-in supports the new Apple Final Cut Pro 7, allowing FCP users to easily add customized soundtracks to their projects. With the plug-in, users are able to im- port the markers and in/out points from a Final Cut Pro video sequence. Any track and arrangement se- lected from the SmartSound music library will already be timed to fit within any markers on the sequence. The tool's Timing Control and Mood Mapping allow for adjustments to the timing of specific beats and control of individual instrument volume levels. Roland's 8- channel mixer BELLINGHAM, WA — Roland Systems Group (www.roland systemsgroup.net) has expanded its Edirol video mixer line-up with the LVS- 800, an eight-chan- nel video mixer fea- turing two indepen- dent outputs for multi-screen apps. The LVS-800 has a downstream keyer for the seamless mixing of under title/graphics and two separate PC/RGB inputs with scan converters. Panel presets allow for the instant recall of mix parame- ters. The eight video channels include two computer inputs, al- lowing graphics and text from a PC to be easily composited over video sources. The independent outputs from the A/B mix and program out buses can be sent to different screens cre- ating multi-screen presentations. Roland sees the LVS-800 as an ideal system for environ- ments where a record or broadcast mix needs to be dif- ferent than the main screen or display. P R O D U C T S S ECAUCUS, NJ — Panasonic's (www.panasonic.com /broadcast) solid-state P2 HD mobile recorder/ player features a range of new editing, recording and AV/IT connection functions, as well as multiformat compatibility, in- cluding optional AVCHD support. The AJ-HPM200 offers all of the features found in its predecessor, the AJ-HPM110, but adds enhanced cuts editing with sepa- rate source and record windows, full-frame rate playback from external disk drives, AVCHD compatibility (with the AJ-YCX250G option card), upconversion of live video in- puts in realtime, FTP and Gigabit Ethernet interfaces and 24p timecode input for production applications. DVCPRO HD and AVC-Intra support are standard, and AVCHD compatibility is an option. The field recorder of- fers 10-bit independent frame 4:2:2 quality recording in a variety of HD formats and frame rates, including 1080p (native), 1080i and 720p. The unit also records in standard definition DVCPRO50/25 and DV. Pros can play back AVCHD content on an SD card using the unit's SD card slot, convert P2 content to AVCHD for low-bit rate distribution over the network, convert AVCHD to P2 to edit in a P2 project, or record P2 and AVCHD simultaneously for backup or distribution. The HPM200 is available now for $16K. The AJ-YCX250G costs $3K. Cinema 4D update boosts workflow F RIEDRICHSDORF, GERMANY — Maxon (www.maxon.net) is offering Cinema 4D R.11.5 (R115), an upgrade to its 3D modeling, painting, animation and rendering software. R.11.5 provides improved workflow and pro- ductivity, enabling pros to create high-quality stills and animations fast and easily. The render engine has been re-tooled and accelerated. R.11.5 takes advantage of multi-core proces- sors and adds new features such as render in- stancing and bucket rendering. Render-inten- sive tasks such as sub-polygon displacement have also been significantly accelerated. The release also features an all-new Picture Viewer that allows for reviewing and editing images and animations. Interoperability with outside compositing apps has been en- hanced. And the MoGraph module has been upgraded to V.2, providing powerful new mo- tion graphics functionality. New features in- clude MoDynamics, an optimized physics simulation package that allows objects to be affected by gravity or friction; PolyFX, for pro- viding quick and easy explosion effects; and MoSpline, for cloning existing splines and ani- mating them with forces and effectors. Most OS are supported, including Apple's Snow Leopard and Windows 7. Sony improves audio production software M ADISON, WI — Sony Creative Software (www.sonycreativesoftware.com) has released the Sound Forge Pro 10 digital audio production suite, which offers a number of new features, including tools for event-based editing and disc-at-once CD burning. Sound Forge Pro 10 has customizable win- dow layouts, the ability to edit metadata and interactive tutorials for learning new features as well as common ones. V.10 ($499) allows users to open, process and save musical in- strument files (.DLS, .SF2, .GIG). Zplane's Elastique Pro Timestretch DirectX plug-in is included. The iZotope 64- bit SRC sample rate converter uses a hybrid low-pass fil- ter design, resulting in pristine audio with less aliasing when converting material from one sam- ple rate to another. The iZotope MBIT+ dither employs psychoacoustic meth- ods to distribute noise into less audible ranges, resulting in improved audio and smoother fades when converting the bit rates of audio files. An iZotope effects bundle features six pro plug-ins designed for mastering and enhanc- ing audio production — Mastering EQ, Master- ing Reverb, Multiband Compressor, Mastering Limiter, Stereo Imager and Harmonic Exciter.
