A sibling of the Senate Pub, it's a Mediterranean destination for chorizo-stuffed dates, wood-grilled lamb sliders, mussels charmoula and octopus grilled with merguez sausage. But mostly, it's the wines that bring in the locals—with a multitude of vintages poured on tap, in quartinos and in bottles. You want a nice Herman Moser-Kremstal Veltliner from Austria, or a La Posta "Palucci" Malbec from Argentina—this is the place to go. Farm-to-table is the leitmotif at Bouquet Restaurant & Wine Bar, in the Cincy suburb of Covington, Kentucky, where running a restaurant in the heartland translates into a virtual cornucopia of ingredients. The greens in the arugula and mustard greens salad are local, as is the sheep milk cheese from Kentucky sheep. The beans, cauliflower and mushrooms served with the bistro steak are from just down the road; so is the bacon. The braised beef sliders come on housemade bacon rolls. Much of the vegetables come from the nearby twelve-acre Greensleeves Farm, where everything is "certified natural." There are even regional wines, like the Biltmore Chardonnay from Asheville, North Carolina. Along with dozens of vintages from around the world—which, along with the farm fresh ingredients, give Bouquet its . . . bouquet. And the mixologist who gives Cincy its . . . fizz . . . is a cocktail master named Molly Wellmann, a great lover of local ingredients and author of a wonderful book called Handcrafted Cocktails: The Mixologist's Guide to Classic Drinks for Morning, Noon & Night. She knows what she mixes well. And she does her mixing at Japp's, Neon's and the Old Kentucky Bourbon Bar. Do exotic cocktails go with Mixologist and author Cincinnati chili? Well, sure—why not? If their chili can be served over spaghetti, Molly Wellmann is there's no limit to what libations can be Cincinnati's cocktail poured over ice. queen.
