THE MESSAGE Whether THE TASTING PANEL goes to the brand execs or the brands call us, there is an abundance of news to report, from the latest releases to behind-the-scenes experiences with some of the world's most influential importers, winemakers, distillers . . . well, you name it. Brief Encounters We may not have enough pages in each issue to devote as much attention as we would like to each person whose path we cross, but please note that if it's in the publication, we deem it noteworthy —Meridith May, Publisher & Executive Editor Coastal Charity G reat wine and a greater cause got together at the hidden, rolling grounds of Newport Beach Vineyards and Winery September 20, as the Orange County, CA, venue held its 4th annual Back Bay Soiree Wine Tasting event, benefitting the Southern California Hospice Foundation. Several popular wineries were on hand to pour product and promote the importance of hospice care, including Foley Family Wines, Hahn Family Wines, and Trinchero Family Estates. The roots of this fête were planted in part by a chance meeting between Foundation Executive Director Michelle Wulfestieg and Julie Dell'Aquilla, Key Account Manager at Young's Market Tustin. "I was at a winery a few years ago talking to the owner about my ideas for a wine-based charity event," Wulfestieg says. "The owner pointed over to Julie—who just happened to be there— and said, 'You should talk to her.' That brief encounter has since led to the two co-chairing this annual tasting affair.
