Advice from a BevForce Career Concierge:  Socialize Your Job Search If you're only hiding embarrassing photos on your Facebook profile, you're not doing enough to maximize the power of social media to energize your job search. Job seekers, hiring managers and recruiters alike are increasingly leveraging social media to enhance their search. Here are a few quick tips to maximize your digital potential: Update (or create) a LinkedIn profile. This is the #1 social tool for recruiters and hiring managers. Remove unprofessional photos from your profile pictures and change your privacy settings so that your pictures are only viewable to your friends and not the public. Consider making highly-personal blogs private; your opinions (even if they change) will always be out there for all to see! However, if your blog or Twitter feed demonstrates your thought-leadership in a space that may be attractive to a potential employer, be sure to highlight that. Use LinkedIn (and even Facebook/Twitter) to network with people in the industry. There are often only one or two degrees of separation between you and someone you should know! Research potential employers and companies on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, etc. and find out what they have to say and what people have to say about them. 14  /  the tasting panel  /  october 2013 TP1013_001-33.indd 14 9/23/13 10:33 PM
