He was a highly accomplished painter and sculptor. His dad and brother were in the scenic union as well. My husband, David Dies, also 816, would hire him often, especially if there were portraits involved, or the project required fine or complicated work, so they worked together frequently for many years. He had taken sculpting classes at the Otis Coillege of Art and Design, and became a teaching assistant there while doing his own work and commissions, casting in bronze. He had a sly sense of humor with a wry smile and was rather shy, but was a really a sweet gentleman. Despite his kind nature, he and David engaged in a lot of the (quite hilarious) insulting banter, that seems to be common among male Scenic Artists. He was very intellectual, teaching himself to read French so he could read classics in that language. He also loved classical music and opera and worked in the LA Opera scenic department for a long time. David and I would visit him and his wife Birgitta after they moved to Ojai and talk and laugh about all the old stories. Unfortunately, David passed away two years before Tony. Below are a few pictures of Tony at work. A. TONY REVELES. B. TONY SKETCHING A PORTRAIT. C. TONY WITH THE SHOW CURTAIN PAINTED FOR THE SAN FRANCISCO OPERA RESTORATION. D. TONY PAINTING SET PIECES FOR THE LA OPERA WITH DAVID DIES. 2006. E. DAVID DIES WITH TONY AND HIS WIFE BIRGITTA IN OJAI IN 2014. B A C D E
