She has been my friend for years, one of my closest creative collaborators, one of the funniest people I have ever met and the hardest-working person I know. The greatest reward came when the actors stepped into their characters' homes. There is a quiet moment when a performer instinctively knows where to sit, what object to reach for, or how to move through a room. At that point, the design disappears and the story takes over. That has always been my goal. Production Design isn't about creating beautiful rooms for people to admire. It's about creating places where stories can unfold naturally. Looking back, I remember the people before I remember the deadlines. I remember conversations around drawings, laughter during long days, Scenic Artists building history into every surface, glass artisans transforming sketches into luminous windows, landscapers giving each yard its own personality. Production Design is about imagining lives so completely that audiences believe those lives existed long before the camera arrived.
