The LMGI Trailblazer Award recognizes those whose vision has transformed the craft and enterprise of filmmaking. This year, we honor an organization that has transformed the way productions navigate the world by helping them transcend geographical boundaries to bring their stories to life. For half a century, the Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI) has united independent agencies with a shared purpose into a worldwide network. What began in 1975 as a small coalition of North American film commissions has grown into the leading global organization connecting productions with experienced local partners. Says AFCI Executive Director Claire Brooks, "The value AFCI presents to the production industry relies heavily on the engagement of the major studios and streamers, global service providers, and the content creators themselves, whose work highlights the history, culture and values of their international communities. AFCI's key objective is connecting these entities with the film commissions that drive economic impact and exposure for their regions." For location professionals, the relationship is personal.
