After reading from the
Necronomicon, Ash accidentally
unleashes a legion of demons and
spirits on a group of unsuspecting
friends in the 1981 cult classic, The
Evil Dead.
With the film's budget running out,
the Property Master and special
effects artist, Tom Sullivan, agreed
to remain on the project only after
striking a deal with director Sam
Raimi in which he retained the
copyright to any props and artwork
created for the film. This included
the Necronomicon designs, which he
owned up until the mid-2010s.
