34 • LMGI COMPASS | Summer 2026 28 Years Later F1 28 YEARS LATER In the remote, windswept landscapes of Northumberland and North Yorkshire, the third thrilling saga in this post-apocalyptic franchise unleashes an epic journey across a ravaged UK as a father and son leave the safety of their isolated island sanctuary to confront the infected who have overrun the mainland. Although Holy Island's natural causeway provides their passage in the story, a far more dramatic crossing was found at Osea Island in Essex. Their odyssey winds through the ancient Kielder Forest, where the son makes his "first kill," to the massive stone ruins of the 12th-century Fountains Abbey, and onward to the Bone Temple—a chilling monument of human skulls rising beside the River Ure in a glacier-carved valley. An abandoned Happy Eater roadside café, a derelict, overgrown railroad car, a lonely farmhouse offering fleeting refuge and the spillway of a hydroelectric facility, where a Swedish NATO unit makes its desperate stand against the infected, deliver a haunting portrait of civilization's collapse and the relentless struggle for human survival. BUGONIA Two young beekeepers kidnap a powerful corporate CEO, convinced she is secretly an alien—and the UK's quiet rural landscapes and subtly surreal settings make their paranoid worldview feel disturbingly plausible. The main character's carefully designed house built to accommodate 10,000 bees contrasts sharply with the sleek offices and mansions of the corporate world she inhabits. Filmed mostly across Southeast England with roads and a shopping mall found in Atlanta, Georgia, the ambitious final vignettes recreate India, the Middle East, Sweden, Korea, New York, China, Japan and Nigeria entirely within London before the story reaches its conclusion in Greece—the blindingly white volcanic rock of Sarakiniko Beach providing a lunar landscape on which to land its themes of class divides, corporate greed and the state of the modern world. F1 An aging former race car driver partners with a young rookie to revive a struggling Formula One team, testing his mental and physical endurance across iconic circuits from the British to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Blending real races, team facilities and glamorous off-track locations with a fictional narrative, the film captures the prestige and intensity of elite motorsport from within—an embedded crew functioning as an "11th Formula One team." Given strict windows of up to 20 minutes to film between rounds, actors drove custom-modified cars at high speeds in front of tens of thousands of spectators. Privileged access to the circuit, miniaturized 6K cameras and special effects combined to achieve an unprecedented level of authenticity and scale.
