LMGI COMPASS | Summer 2026 • 35 Weapons ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER An ex-revolutionary living off-the-grid among the redwoods of Eureka, California, is forced back into action when his past comes roaring back and his daughter needs rescuing. Downtown Sacramento stages the bank robberies and major car chases, its brutalist landmarks lending a cold institutional weight, while the Folsom Ranch community and East Sacramento fill out his world, with El Paso, Texas, standing in for downtown Eureka. In California, the Otay Mesa Detention Center, La Purísima Mission State Historic Park, and the Texas Dip in Borrego Springs hold the story in spaces that feel both expansive and deeply human. From opening scenes at the border wall to a climactic desert chase through Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, his journey from hiding to reckoning is tracked through a modern America bristling with anxiety, dark humor and the ghosts of old rebellions. WEAPONS Spanning cities and counties throughout Georgia, real-life communities are assembled into the fictional suburban town of Maybrook, Pennsylvania—where a group of children from the same class vanish simultaneously overnight. The town's bright, familiar streets shift into something deeply sinister in this modern retelling of Hansel and Gretel, turning quiet neighborhoods, empty school corridors, wooded backroads and dimly lit community spaces into an unsettling landscape charged with dread and mystery—making the supernatural feel chillingly close to home. One Battle After Another "Maybrook was a fictional town filmed mostly in Tucker, Georgia, but also the City of Covington, City of Griffin, Castleberry Hills neighborhood in Atlanta and unincorporated Dekalb County. The town of Maybrook needed to feel like small-town Americana/Main Street USA. Not a fancy place, but a nice place to grow up. The exterior seings were supposed to be mostly bright and upliing to contrast with the dark and evil moments of the story." -Scout/KALM Ma Bender, Weapons "Locations throughout the film advance the storyline—from the rooops in El Paso for the chase sequence to the River of Hills driving sequence in the climax. They build energy and the ominous and impending danger." -KALM Eric Crocombe/LMGI, One Bale Aer Another
