What I do think is that the value of what we do is undeniable, and it will continue to be valuable." Before turning the dais over for other reports, including a special presentation revealing deeper details about the new contract by Avnet and Hollander, Nolan issued a call to action to his fellow members. In his address about the new tentative agreement, Avnet explained how it was achieved. "We are 19,500 members with a will of steel, unbending, unflinching and unwilling to give in," said Avnet. "As Emile Zola wrote in his novel Germinal — I paraphrase slightly— '19,500 hearts beating as one.'" and New York — continued on page 6 CLOCKWISE FROM TOP ROW: DGA National Vice President Laura Belsey, Negotiations Chair Jon Avnet, President Christopher Nolan, National Executive Director Russell Hollander and DGA Negotiations Vice-Chair Karen Gaviola.
