Marcello is tasked with a mission — to assassinate his former mentor, a leftist professor who fled to Paris to escape political persecution. As Marcello struggles to decide whether to carry out the assassination, flashbacks reveal his complicated past that led him to such extremism. Bertolucci's political thriller explores political violence, eroticism, and social conformity in Mussolini's Fascist Italy. Cited as one of the greatest films of all time, The Conformist was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
