32 PROP CULTURE I SUMMER 2026 The Muppet Show special brought back the series to celebrate the original show's 50th anniversary. The series had to clear the high hurdle of creating new and memorable moments while accurately recreating iconic ones that fans of the Muppets have seen over and over again. Recreating Kermit's teacup was an important and difficult task to nail. Research was done into what cups could have been used to create the original, although we knew we wouldn't want to use an actual porcelain mug. References of the original were paint-matched and traced and modeled for accuracy, then printed at various sizes for testing with Kermit to find the correct scale. The shape actually required minor alterations in the handle from the original for studio clearance purposes. Finally, a semi-transparent insert was made to mimic tea that could "slosh" with movement and hide a bit of charcoal for steam. Kermit's teacup was used in the show's early teaser promotions and became one of the opening shots of the special.
