LOCAL706.ORG • 37 A s a hair stylist, my job was to transform Sydney Sweeney into one of the most recognizable figures in women's sports history, Christy Martin the boxer. Before a single look was designed, I watched a lot of her archival material: her fight footage, interviews, press photos, candid images and behind-the-scenes moments. Christy's looks were never about being glamorous; it was about lifestyle. I worked closely with Sydney to ensure she was comfortable and confident knowing that hair can impact the performance if she wasn't comfortable. I had to design the styles that could realistically take the sweat and the constant moving and the training, as well as match Christy Martin and maintain continuity. Christy's transformation from West Virginia to her boxing championships was built gradually: with length, color, and perms for the different times in her life.
