I first met Bobbi when we worked together on "Naked Gun 2 1/2, The Smell of Fear" and "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. Her dedication to the show and to the craft of sound editing was amazing and memorable. She was always a joy to be around and her work was exemplary. A few years later we met again as we both served on the Board of Directors of the Motion Picture Sound Editors where she eventually took the helm as President. These were difficult times for the MPSE and I am happy to say that we worked together seamlessly to steer the organization into its second fifty years and on into the new millennium. As a mentor Bobbi has worked tirelessly with both the Motion Picture and Television Academies to help spread the importance of diversity and inclusion, as well as mentorship, in our business. Change only occurs when we, as individuals, step into leadership rolls to advance the cause of social and economic justice. Bobbi has been, and will continue to be, an example for our members and the entertainment community of what it means to fight for the under represented and under acknowledged. As recently as this past summer Bobbi represented Local 700 in Sacramento in our successful efforts to pass the newly minted California Motion Picture and Television Production Credit. It is easy to talk the talk, but going to Sacramento to lobby lawmakers is truly walking the walk. Bobbi Banks has made a lifetime of selfless contributions to the craft, to the industry, and to her fellow Guild members, and for that she has earned my highest respect and gratitude. However, what I am most truly grateful for is that I can call her my friend. Congratulations Bobbi on receiving the Motion Picture Editor's Guild Fellowship and Service Award. Have a wonderful evening - what great fun!
