4 W I N T E R 2 0 2 6 I C A S Q U A R T E R L Y Holiday greetings from the Cinema Audio Society and myself. We're having a big year full of outstanding events. We just completed Sounding Board v5.0 in conjunction with the Motion Picture Sound Editors. This was well attended and enjoyed by everyone according to all reports. It was followed by an event with the AES and a special event at Disney. These followed member events in Vancouver, BC, and Atlanta, GA. Look for an upcoming CAS event near you! Also, please look for details about the CAS Holiday Party and Annual Membership Meeting on December 13 at the Game Changer Brewhouse in Sherman Oaks, CA. It's our official event of the year but should also be a great opportunity to spend time with your fellow members and families. Shortly after, the nominations process for the CAS Board of Directors begins. There are several seats up for election for both production and post-production. Serving on our Board is a mix of setting policy and helping the CAS provide all the social, educational, and awards-related opportunities for members throughout the year. Regardless of whether you are a Board member, there are always opportunities to serve on our many committees performing a service to our members. The new Board will be seated following the 62nd CAS Awards on March 7, 2026. Speaking of which, our show this year is expected to build on our growing history of meaningful and entertaining award presentations. I am especially excited about the Board's selection of Skip Lievsay CAS as our Career Achievement honoree. I have worked on many features with Skip beginning in 1982, although it was a few years before we actually met in person! He will be celebrated, along with our Filmmaker Award recipient Guillermo del Toro, and all the talented mixers nominated this season. Member tickets are available for $275, unchanged from last year. Ticket sales and submissions for awards consideration are currently open and available on the CAS website at CinemaAudioSociety.org. Meanwhile, enjoy this issue of CAS Quarterly, filled with interesting articles covering some of the events I've just mentioned and articles by several CAS members ranging from a discussion about work overseas, to a tour of Genelec, the overlap between mixing and sound editing, and insight into Les Paul's life and work. Thank you for being a CAS member, and I hope to see you soon. Peter F.
