The Yellow Brick Road In the sequel, Wicked: For Good, we rejoin the world of Oz, jumping ahead in time to a period of intense change. Once again, the film collaborated with farmer Mark Eves, who planted a million tulips, now all yellow. This sea of gold serves a singular purpose for the Wizard, who is now building his legendary yellow brick road. The Munchkins, are tasked with growing the tulips and making the bricks, while the very animals of Oz are conscripted into the construction of the road. Oz Forests: Crafting the Enchanting Ozian Woodlands For the second film adaptation, creating a practical on-screen experience for the landscapes of Oz was critical. While initial preproduction efforts focused on scouting real forests, the need for a fantastical aesthetic necessitated a different approach. We needed to build our Ozian forests. A Soundstage Forest Takes Root The solution: constructing a Ozian forest environment on a soundstage. This decision offered several advantages, primarily, it allowed for complete creative control. We could design and build unique circular "Ozian" forms. This design choice would also lead us to find the design of Elphaba's hidden lair, nestled high within the canopy of a giant "mother tree."
