Exploring the Architecture of the Emerald City We needed to make sure the digital city views seamlessly connected with the physical backlot sets of the Emerald City. Our goal is for the audience to believe that the sprawling, digitally created exteriors naturally transition into the tangible streets and buildings we'd actually built. This means designing clear "transfer points"—visual cues or specific physical locations—where the eye can smoothly move from a broad cityscape to a detailed street or building entrance on the backlot. These connections must look natural and logical, making it clear how someone would move from the grand exterior to the more intimate interior of the Wizard's palace, creating a unified and believable world. Key to the design was allowing each tower's base to feel rooted and substantial. As they gained height, they transitioned into a more transparent and light expression, the architecture then asymmetrically flowing and intertwining upward, much like an inverted tree root. This style consciously referenced the Art Deco and Art Moderne aesthetic of The Wizard of Oz, creating a bridge between historical charm and organic, modern form.
