16 • THE ARTISAN WINTER 2026 EDUCATION by JULIE SOCASH & JANI KLEINBARD Mastering Color Technique for Artisans IngleDodd Media brought in a wonderful sponsor, Schwarzkopf professionals, which hosted Local 706 artisans with a full day of custom hair color education. Schwarzkopf understands the needs of all members and created personalized education with instructors Brendnetta and Amber Hug from Education at Schwarzkopf. The class was held at Local 80 on September 21. Schwarzkopf Professional Wig & Extension Coloring Class: Set-Ready Techniques was specifically designed for the unique needs for all Local 706 artists and classifications working in Film, Television, Theater and Theme Park. The class was led by the talented and dynamic Brendnetta Ashley (@edgybgirl), who tailored every element of the session to reflect the fast- paced, unpredictable world of set life. Brendnetta, a seasoned stylist with deep experience in both salon and on-set environments, brought her wealth of knowledge to the classroom. Her focus for the day: mastering color techniques for wigs, hairpieces, facial hair and extensions—key tools in the world of on-camera and live performance hair styling. Real Solutions for Set Life Throughout the class, Brendnetta introduced a variety of real-world scenarios that stylists commonly face on set—last-minute color changes, wig matching, fading issues, and continuity challenges. Using IGORA Vibrance, Schwarzkopf's demi- permanent color line, she demonstrated how to create both natural and high impact looks in a short time, without sacrificing the integrity of the hair. When quick touch-ups or tonal adjustments were needed, Chroma ID emerged as a standout solution—a semi-permanent color conditioner that delivers pigment and shine while maintaining hair condition. Ideal for on-set use, Chroma ID offers a fast, no-developer- required way to bump, tone, or refresh color in between takes or shoot days, with results lasting 10-15 washes. It's the kind of tool every set stylist should have ready in their kit. IGORA Vibrance stood out as a go-to product for stylists who need fast, consistent, and camera- ready results. Whether you're blending in a lace front or adding bold tones for a fantasy look, the line delivers vibrant color, shine, and softness—all while being gentle enough for wigs and extensions. Brendnetta emphasized not just the color process, but the importance of product layering to preserve color, prevent fading, and maintain the overall health and texture of the hair. These tips are crucial for maintaining continuity over long shoot schedules and under intense studio lighting. Technique-Focused Learning The class featured live demonstrations with Brendnetta walking attendees through techniques specifically designed for wigs and hairpieces. Key demonstrations included: • Coloring lace-front wigs without staining or damaging the lace • Root smudging and hair painting for a realistic, lived-in look • Foiling and balayage techniques on longer hairpieces • Tips for working with synthetic blends and natural hair wigs • Strategies for applying color quickly and cleanly under time pressure These advanced techniques were not only practical but elevated the work of stylists looking to deliver professional, polished looks that translate well on HD and 4K cameras. Resources for Entertainment Stylists Schwarzkopf's professional color lines, including IGORA Vibrance and Chroma ID, are readily available from key industry suppliers like Frends Beauty, Nigel Beauty Emporium, and Naimie's. Having access to these trusted vendors ensures that stylists can easily stock their kits with reliable, high-performance products that deliver under pressure. There was also excitement around upcoming educational opportunities, including a future class hosted by Frends Beauty. Attendees were encouraged to stay connected and continue building their skills through brand education and community support. A Great Learning Environment—And Lunch! Aside from the education and technique-sharing, the day had great energy. Stylists connected, shared stories, and learned from each other's experiences, creating a supportive and engaging environment. And let's not forget one of the surprise highlights of the day—lunch! The catered meal featured one of the best burgers and fries we've had at any event, rounding out a day that was as delicious as it was educational.
