Oh dear, yes, yes, yes. We started puing lile costumes together for the background. For the children and the lile people. And then I thought, "Holy cow, from a book to a movie, and look who the actors are." Oh, and Christine Baranski, I love her. Ever since then, I have shared something beautiful with Miss Baranski, and when I was asked, "Ruben, can you help her on set? Put her dress on and her hats?" They were the most beautiful costumes ever to me, it was just so special, a dream. But in reality, it all started with lile Cindy Lou Who, because she's the one who really saved the world and saved Christmas, this beautiful girl. The Grinch is celebrating its 25th anniversary. It is also a Universal Studios touchstone every Christ- mas for Grinchmas. As someone who worked on the live-action movie, how does it make you feel to be a part of a classic? I am honored nowadays. I see my nephews, my friends' kids, my friends' grandkids, watching the show and loving it, and I just think, "Oh, I was a Set Costumer; I was a Backstage Costumer. I was helping to prepare so many lile things." In those days, we didn't even know what IMDb would be. And some- times you don't even appear [in the credits] on so many movies/shows. But as time goes by, I'm so proud of being a Local 705 Costumer. I am so proud of having the old Costum- ers from the '40s, from the '50s and '60s, who showed me so many beautiful things in those days. When you needed to do sewing, accessories, and painting, it was beautiful. It was a movie that went around the world, stole hearts. Amazing. What was your favorite costume? It was Cindy. Because in our minds, when we are children, we fabricate our costumes, how we would like to dress for Christ- mas. And that's what happened to her. Everything she wore was just dreamy. Of course, Christine Baranski as Martha May had a glamorous, beautiful costume. You know, it was impressive, but Cindy Lou Who was my favorite. MOTIONPICTUREC O S T U M E R S .O R G 47
