MOTIONPICTUREC O S T U M E R S .O R G 31 saw him, like, that's why we went until the fiings and without the shorts, it didn't look finished. And the minute you put the shorts on; it was such a big difference. It was like, wow. And he grew to love them too, because at first, he's like, "Hmm," but then, as a fiing one, he goes, "yeah, no, I'm shorts, and it looks so much beer." So yes, I'm team shorts. DA: Oh, shorts, for sure. If you've been in the room, those shorts work. I haven't seen the movie so I don't know what they look like on film. But it was a very different thing in the room. In the fiing, absolutely, they just look great on. Sometimes the dyeing, the painting, the printing, it changes the fabric so it can be hard to really lock in a costume. But when they worked, they looked good. KM: I was actually, initially, team no shorts. It really did look cool without the shorts, but in the fiing where James and David were having a lile discussion about the shorts, David won me over. He actually made a lot of sense, and that was that he felt that Superman should look a lile silly. It shouldn't be perfect. It shouldn't and that's why a lot of the fans, I think, are trying to compare it to the Henry Cavill suit and all that. It's like folks I saw those suits. None of them were perfect. They all had wrinkles, clothing had wrinkles, but he wanted to look goofy, and I dont think he looked goofy, but I could see where he looked like in the comics. And I felt like, yes, kids would be able to approach him and not be afraid. And I think he was right. GS: Totally trunks. It looks so much beer with trunks. I mean, I have to say most of us knew it was going to be trunks. Was there ever really a choice? Totally no. The only right answer was trunks. And it was just about geing those trunks right. We knew they just had to be right. JT: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, he wants to be human in his own way and approachable. And actually, the guy who won the debate on the shorts was David Corenswet because he was, I mean, there's videos out there all over he was like, James, I think he would wear these because lile kids don't want to come up to this scary man of bronze who's like, terrifying and blowing up buildings with laser eyes. This makes him look like he's approachable. The shorts make him look like Superman in the original comics, Superman like Christopher Reeve, and we're all very happy with it. This film version of Superman is a love leer to our cra. It embodies tireless work from the hands of our beloved costume artisans. They cut, stitch, shop, dye, cra, build, and manage iconic costumes that are then shared with the world, so that future craspeople are inspired to follow in their footsteps. To then take up the helm of the diligent and important work we provide for film and television. It is punk rock to give our love to the physical manifestation of our inspiration. May we continue to spark creativity for new and incoming artists in Local 705 as Superman has inspired us for the last 87 years. © 2025 WARNER BROS.
