www.postmagazine.com 2 POST SEPT/OCT 2025 EDITOR'S NOTE ur cover story this issue recognizes the hugely successful Apple TV+ series The Studio, which recently took home Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor, Directing, Writing, Costumes, Production Design, Casting, Picture Editing, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Cinematography, Main Title Theme Music and Comedy Series. The show follows Matt Remick, played by Seth Rogen, who's the newly-appointed head of Continental Studios. The position is one that he's dreamed about his whole life, but is also one that might cost him his career due to infighting among his team of executives. In our "Bits & Pieces" section, beginning on page 4, Emmy-winning editor Eric Kissack, ACE, shares insight into his work on the show (pictured below), including the challenges of the pilot, and how the editing team worked with the directors and cinematographer to construct a series of oners that could be tweaked as needed. Lindsey Alvarez, CAS, is part of the Emmy-winning sound team on the show, handling dialog and music while working within Avid's Pro Tools. Dialog is recorded using lavalier or clip mics, and Alvarez uses a combi- nation of EQ, compression and plug-ins to make sure the sound is in its best shape before heading to the Dolby Atmos mix. In our "Color Grading" column, Harbor's Damien Vandercruyssen shares details on the show's look and how he collaborated with Emmy-winning director of photography Adam Newport-Berra to create The Studio's vintage, warm tones. Vandercruyssen graded The Studio at Harbor in New York City using a FilmLight Baselight system. Creating consistency for the setting sun in the show's long oner shot was just one of the challenges he faced. He also had to deal with numerous visual effects, as well as balance the brightness of backdrops that appear outside Remick's office windows, and add film grain to achieve the series' de- sired look. Turn to page 14 for complete details. Elsewhere in this issue, we look at some of the new shows that recently made their Fall debut. Fans of The Office will appreciate the new NBC series The Paper — a spin off of the original show that employs the same mockumentary style. Just like The Office, an embed- ded camera crew documents the inner workings of a paper company — one that publish- es The Toledo Truth Teller, while also selling toilet tissue. The characters are just as quirky as the original, and according to director Jennifer Celotta, the reactions are genuine, with the production team capturing everything in-camera as it happens, using quick pans and zooms. Jennifer, who directed episodes of The Office during its run, came on-board to direct Episode 107 of The Paper, and shares how the show comes together from both a production and post production angle. Turn to our "Television" column on page 12 to read all about it. In addition to its NBC broadcasts, The Paper is also streaming on Peacock. Two additional shows included in this issue's coverage include Netflix's Black Rabbit and Hulu's Chad Powers. You can read about them in our "Bits & Pieces" section, as well as online at postmagazine.com.
