hero to experience. Zamboanga Street is the best example; large colonial Spanish buildings mixed with traditional Polynesian huts and all kind of street vendors. Set decorator Dan Birt brought in so many ideas and added many layers of context, giving the set a lot of depth and significance. The crew built it on a backlot, the higher floors were done with CGI set extensions as we wanted to give the street a sense of scope and depth. To complement it, we also built a very dense, multilayered, almost claustrophobic maze of adjacent slum streets, which made the world richer and more textured, and allowed us to transition back-and-forth between complementary but very different environments. The same juxtaposition is also striking with the Zamboanga fort set, a massive stone structure erected by the Spaniards surrounded by the local population's more modest dwellings. The production was fortunate to have at our disposal a large exterior pool tank on the backlot, so we built the fort right in front of it. We also installed scaffolds within the tank, which we then skinned over to make them look like a stone pier projecting into the bay (It's the dock Kaina steps onto when he lands in Zamboanga). More than for any of the other projects I have been a part of, none of it would have been possible without an exceptional team, some previously mentioned, but too many people to thank fully in this limited space. But I do want to credit, Supervising Art Director Helen Harwell, Will and Courtney in Hawaii, the art direction team in New Zealand, Alistair, Todd, Karijus, Jill, Miro, Robert, Jilian and the textiles team. And the super talented design team, including long- time collaborators and brilliant Set Designers Andrew Lima, Marco, Marina, and Concept Artists Andrés Parada and Dean Sherriff. Mahalo.
