behind the band and loud carpet below, and the programmable marquee bulbs under the header, a close collaboration with DP Adam Bricker. All in all, the crew ran nearly a thousand feet of LEDs throughout the set and dozens of timeworn show lights above. We connected two skylines into one, outlining her journey through the backdrop behind her desk. A star curtain evokes her residency at the Palmetto in season 1 and chevron flooring on the platforms draws from both her tour bus and her home. We also created an entrance that was personal to Deborah, made of a soft blush pink velvet revealing a sequined wall befitting her brand. Those tones echo throughout all her private spaces. That was just one part of the show's scenery, there was much more. We were, in fact, designing the whole machine. While the world- at-large focused on stage, our backstage needed to include decades of grit, lore and grime. We turned the black stage floors into old worn concrete layered with age, the crew built gold rooms piled high with forgotten lights and stage gags, all made to feel ancient. The paint area needed to look the way old paint smells. We had our crew sign the wall behind the cue cards evoking the old theatre tradition of signing walls when it was your time to move on, making the place feel historic and weighty. The Art Department turned the entire first floor of the stage into "Late Night." The hallway outside the stage door became "gear storage" and "craft services," the hallways to the guest dressing rooms were adorned with photos of "Late Night" guests past.
