44 • LMGI COMPASS | Summer 2025 OUTSTANDING LOCATIONS IN A TV SERIAL PROGRAM, ANTHOLOGY OR LIMITED SERIES Adolescence Dope Thief ADOLESCENCE A 13-year-old schoolboy is arrested on suspicion of murdering a classmate in a quiet middle-class South Yorkshire neighborhood. A typical suburban family home, a chaotic UK public school, a hardware store created in a warehouse and leisure center transformed into a supermarket were selected not only to describe the daily life of the community, but because of their proximity to each other. Timed to match beats of dialogue, driving sequences, near misses and character interaction, the locations were a critical part of the choreography, as each episode was filmed in one take. The camera had to travel seamlessly between interior and exterior spaces in real time with a well-coordinated convoy of vehicles carrying cameras, drones and crew. The continuous shot amplified tension, anxiety and emotional stakes as viewers remain locked in with the characters, experiencing the unfolding of events just as they did. AMERICAN PRIMEVAL This brutal historical drama filmed in New Mexico to portray the exploration and settling of the American West in 1850's Montana and Utah. Marked by the violent collision of cults, religions and settlers fighting for control of the New World, the sheer beauty of the pristine landscape drew people west despite the harsh conditions they had to endure. Built sets needed to match the real places of that world. Fort Bridger was built on the edge of the Rio Grande in Cochiti Pueblo to resemble its original setting along Wyoming's Black Forks River. A pioneer campsite erected on the open plains surrounded by mountains is the scene of a brutal and savage attack, and a high-altitude cabin was erected on Pajarito Mountain near Los Alamos. From high mountain elevations in extreme cold weather with deep snow, to open plains and river basins, to heavy mud, rapid waters and steep rock caves, locations mimic the hard, brutal elements of an untamed world. DOPE THIEF High-octane action mixes with deep emotional connections as two friends pose as DEA agents to rob drugs from small-time dealers in Philadelphia and its surrounding areas. Locations deepen the show's gritty atmosphere and reflect the high stakes of their petty criminality when they hit up a derelict cook house in the outskirts that is under surveillance by the real DEA. Philadelphia City Hall, Market Street, Eastern State Penitentiary, and the abandoned warehouses and weathered buildings of Chester are standout locations that define their world. That world doesn't end at the bounds of Philadelphia's most dangerous neighborhoods; It spreads to the brownstones of Center City, the mansions of the Mainline and into the farmland beyond the metropolitan area. From Kensington rowhomes to Lancaster County barns, the locations work to enhance the feelings of danger and despondency that hound these guys as they hustle through each day. American Primeval
