LMGI COMPASS | Summer 2025 • 41 THE DAY OF THE JACKAL Every location, an obstacle. Every target, nearly impossible. In this adaptation of Frederick Forsyth's 1971 political thriller, a cunning and meticulous contract killer meets his match in a tenacious and exceptionally capable British Intelligence officer. A tightly wound cat-and-jackal pursuit unfolds across central London, also doubling as Northern Ireland, and builds to a daring showdown at the Müpa in Budapest—standing in for Tallinn, Estonia. From London's layered urban backdrop to the breathtaking natural beauty of Rabac, Croatia doubling as Cádiz, Spain, each location intensifies the chase to stop the assassin at what he does best. THE STUDIO A hilarious over-the-top send up of Hollywood's moviemaking machine as a newly anointed studio head learns how hard it is to mix art and business and what it means to be the boss. Iconic L.A. locations, such as the legendary Chateau Marmont on the Sunset Strip, mid-century architectural homes like Lautner's Silvertop, and the classic Warner Bros. studio lot are host to the hubris of executives causing mayhem on film sets and making back-stabbing deals all over town. The opulence and scale of the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas inspires a madcap chase when a very drugged studio owner goes missing. From a massive ballroom party, through its lavish casinos and on bridges traversing twisting waterways stocked with gondolas, Hollywood excess is on full and frantic display. This vivid satirical portrait of the movie industry uses fabulous well-known locales to actively shape the narrative and drive the action. THE LAST OF US Season 2 British Columbia, Canada, is the primary stand-in for Wyoming and the Pacific Northwest in a post-apocalyptic world that has grown even more dangerous and unpredictable, even as characters have found refuge in a fortified community in the middle of nowhere. A chalet where tragedy unfolds is cold and remote, reflecting the emotional devastation left in its wake. Before two young women set out on a harrowing cross-country journey to Seattle to seek vengeance, they pay their respects at the Jackson cemetery, located on a ranch in Livingston, Montana. With sweeping grasslands and Emigrant Peak standing in for the Teton Mountains, it provides just the right light and natural composition for solemn remembrance. The locations create a visual bridge, transporting us from the dry, muted plains of Wyoming into the misty rainforests of the Pacific Northwest. Post- apocalyptic Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood is reimagined from five city blocks in Nanaimo, British Columbia, further grounding the show's exploration of survival, community and the cost of revenge.
