BITS & PIECES BRIGHTFRAME STUDIOS EXPANDS TO WEST COAST WITH NEW ATMOS FACILITY BURBANK, CA — BrightFrame Studios (www.brightframe.net) officially opened the doors to its new Burbank facility on July 17th, expanding its presence to the West Coast. The company has an existing operation in New Orleans, and specializes in Dolby Atmos mixing, film and TV re-recording, ADR, dialogue editing and vocal production. The new Burbank location is owned by Dr. Jenny Mains, who opened the New Orleans facility back in November of 2024, in partnership with Erick Bardales, who is also BrightFrame's lead engineer. Bardales, who supported the New Orleans launch, oversaw the technical design and integration of both fa- cilities, including the Dolby Atmos and broadcast rooms, working in collabora- tion with RSPE Audio Solutions. The new Burbank facility is centered around a PMC-powered 9.1.4 Dolby Atmos mixing room that features an Avid S6 console and a curated selection of premium microphones, preamps and outboard gear. In addition to music mixing, film and TV re-recording, ADR, dialogue editing, voiceover work, the new studio is fully equipped for writing sessions, music production and vocal tracking, making it well suited for labels, engineers and producers developing new projects. It's designed for flexibility and ease of use, and is bookable by the hour, day or week. Remote streaming is possible via Audiomovers for realtime collaboration and feedback. "This new BrightFrame facility has been designed to meet the technical and workflow requirements of professionals working across multiple formats," explains Bardales. "Within weeks of completing the build, we hosted Bart Schoudel, who mixed tracks for the new Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco proj- ect right here in the room. That initial session led to us mixing the entire Atmos version of the album, which was a strong start and a clear validation of the space. We're looking forward to opening our doors to more exciting projects." FATHOM LAUNCHES VISUAL EFFECTS FACILITY IN NEW ZEALAND AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND — Fathom (www.fathomvfx.com) is a new visual effects facility that recently opened its doors in Kingsland. Damon Duncan and Rhys Dippie launched the company, which is home to three suites that can handle editing, color and online work. The facility also features breakout space and production areas. Its team has a combined 50 years of experience in the New Zealand production & post industry. Duncan and Dippie are joined by Richard Betts, who serves as head of 2D. "We have been friends with Richard forever, and having him join our team has been amazing," says Duncan. "We can't wait to get stuck into some tricky creative and technological challenges with him." Fathom recently completed a series of long-form projects, serving as the primary VFX vendor for Disney's Zombies 4, and crafting a 3D car chase se- quence for M3gan 2.0. Additionally, the team worked on a Christmas spot titled Humbug for MOFA and Myers. Nickelodeon's Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado represents an expansion of the 25-year-old franchise. The live-action feature was directed by Alberto Belli and stars Samantha Lorraine as the lead character, who treks through the dangerous Amazon jungle in search of an ancient treasure, hoping to prevent it from falling into enemy hands. Evan Ahlgren edited the feature using Avid's Media Composer and says he regularly uses D-Verb. "I love creating sound design in all of my work," says Ahlgren. "I used this tool throughout Dora's visions and several different environments to give them an otherworldly feel. (I'm) also a huge fan of selecting all media to the right of the play head in the sequence to open up my cut to make changes."
