2 FALL 2025 EDITOR'S LETTER EDITOR'S LETTER Dear Readers, We are thrilled to share the fall edition of The Costumer Quarterly. This issue takes you all over the world, and in some cases—out of this world. Journey with us to Hawai'i and New Zealand for an inside look at the Costume Department for Chief of War (Season 1). Supervisor Nora Pedersen delves into the logistics of managing a Costume Department with teams in Los Angeles, Hawai'i and New Zealand while Paern Maker Heather Vandergriff describes how the team built the costumes for entire kingdoms of native Hawaiians for this epic production. Travel with Costumers to Sacramento to lobby for the tax incentives needed to re-energize our industry, and back to Los Angeles as we get involved with efforts to streamline filming here in Hollywood. Our spotlight on Costumer Todd Voght follows his career from United American Costume Company to production sets in Montana and Mexico. Or maybe you'd like to re-visit the Pacific Theater of WWII with Military Key Costumer Harlan Glenn, as he discusses his next series of books on military costuming, this time focusing on the Bale for Betio, Tarawa in 1943. Step inside the wild and weird worlds of the Signatory Specialty Workrooms at Bill Hargate and Thingergy, where on any given day you might find yourself on a Japanese bullet train, in medieval fantasy Europe, in Wakanda, under the sea in Atlantica, or on any number of alien planets. Feeling like you'd like to stay closer to home? The Costume Department on Freakier Friday shares how the film's themes of empathy and importance of family spilled over to the crew while working on this sequel to the beloved Freaky Friday.
