THE FABULOUS LIFE OF MID-CENTURY MODERN 46 • THE ARTISAN FALL 2025 B Y F A R A H B U N C H D E P A R T M E N T H E A D M A K E - U P & L U K E O ' C O N N O R D E P A R T M E N T H E A D H A I R Mid-Century Modern is multi-camera sitcom from the creators of Will & Grace. Set in sunny Palm Springs, it is about three gay best friends who decide to become roommates in Bunny's fabulous house and do life together. It stars the legendary Nathan Lane, Matt Bomer, Nathan Lee Graham, and the late Linda Lavin. We did Will & Grace before this with the creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan. So, we know what Max wants— beauty, beauty, BEAUTY! He is a showrunner who notices every detail and likes to be very hands on in the process. We think it makes it fun to have someone so passionate, actually notice and appreciate the work. Max gives a big "YES!" when someone looks hot. So on Mid-Century Modern, we have an amazing team. Department Head Make-up Farah Bunch does Matt Bomer and Nathan Lee Graham and some special guest stars. Department Head Hair Luke O'Connor does Nathan Lane and guest stars. Key make-up Bruce Grayson does Nathan Lane and Linda Lavin. Key hair Melissa Malkasian does Matt Bomer, the man with the most beautiful hair on earth—and guest stars. The third make-up artist is Amy Sparks, who does all additional guest stars. And we had some amazing guest stars: from Jesse Tyler Ferguson to Rhea Perlman. Michael Ward was Linda Lavin's hair personal and did beautiful polished bobs on her every episode. Multicamera is always a challenge in that it's lit from above, and it's the same lighting for everyone. While it makes for an amazing shooting schedule and gets the crew out fast, it's not great for make- up. We can't always anticipate how something will look. Sometimes we're shooting on a new set for the first time in front of a live audience, and the lighting will be darker—and there really isn't time for adjustments. There also isn't time for look changes. You really have to keep the make-up the same and just do a quick change on L-R: Nathan Lee Graham, Nathan Lane, and Matt Bomer.
