6 FA L L 2 0 2 5 I C A S Q U A R T E R L Y Brandon Schuster CAS is originally from Atlanta, Georgia. He studied audio at the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences in Gilbert, Arizona, and then moved to Los Angeles to begin his career. Since then, he has worked on all avenues of the industry from recording audiobooks, mixing and editing trailers and commercials, Foley and ADR mixing, and assistant editing for reality TV and features. For the last seven years, Brandon has been involved in localization where he works as a recording engineer and dubbing director for anime and live-action international episodic series and features. COLLABORATORS Blas Kisi´c CAS was born in Venezuela, where he earned a BA in mass media, after which he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in filmmaking. He's been blessed with a rich career spanning documentaries, unscripted television, and commercials, though most of his current work is in episodic TV. Most importantly, he's a family man who leaves a bit of time for Formula One, photography, woodworking, and Tottenham Hotspur (in no particular order). CAS Associate member Sam Casas has been working as a re-recording mixer and sound designer at Lime Studios in Santa Monica since 2003. He has found a successful niche mixing television commercials for Global and National brands such as Adidas, Visa, QuickBooks, and Postmates, to name a few. In addition to his commercial work at Lime Studios, he finds time to mix the occasional independent feature such as Lupe for HBO Max, various shorts, and music videos for artist such as H.E.R. and French Montana. Joining MPEG in 2017, and then MPSE and CAS in 2018 as an Associate member, Sam has a passion for acquiring and sharing knowledge. With a love of film and episodic television, the CAS has been a great inspiration in his goal to bring a cinematic approach to all his work. Connecting with other members while writing articles for the CAS Quarterly has been especially educational and rewarding. Sam has a fully equipped and treated 5.1 studio at his home in Studio City, CA, which he has been able to make his primary workplace since the start of the pandemic in 2020. In his spare time, he enjoys reading books about acoustics, thinking about maybe starting to exercise again, and spending time with his wife Elise, and son, Sebastian. Bruce Black's career started with designing systems and mixing live sound for local bands, graduating to mixing for Kenny Rankin and English New Wave band Deaf School. He later worked for the legendary Deane Jensen before moving into film sound. During his career as a post-production sound engineer, Bruce has worked for Skywalker, Warner Bros., Sony, DreamWorks, and others. Along with his other duties, he was often called upon to fix acoustical problems on mix, Foley, and ADR stages. In searching for useful information for these assignments, he found that the common knowledge of acoustics was vague and based on hearsay, guesswork, or "secret mystical knowledge." Genuinely good rooms were elusive and rare, and their designers couldn't explain what made them work—or fail. Repeatable success was nonexistent. Bruce realized that acoustics was science, not sorcery, and creating successful rooms need not be hit or miss. He then read books by such authorities as Everest, Salter, Long, and others, and discovered his passion for acoustics. He merged this with creative thinking and a dedication to true measured data, creating a process for designing successful critical listening spaces with predictable, consistently reproducible results. Bruce then started MediaRooms Technology LLC to bring this process to post rooms, studios, and other acoustically sensitive spaces globally. His clients include AMPAS, Sony, Matt Groening/Santa Monica Campus, Skywalker, Paul Massey, and Bruce Botnick. Bruce is a member of AMPAS, AES, the Hollywood Sapphire Group, SMPTE, ASA, and an Associate member of the AIA. He has published articles in the CAS Quarterly, the Motion Picture Editors Guild's CineMontage, Mix, and Recording Magazine, and made presentations at numerous AES conventions. Bruce can be reached at www. MediaRoomsTech.com. CAS Associate member Ryan Pedersen has loved sound his whole life, even as a little kid. He originally planned on working in live sound or recording music in studios but found his way into film production and has been doing that ever since. Ryan has seen a large portion of the world from his early documentary work but now spends most of his time in Los Angeles doing music and dialogue playback or mixing scripted projects. When not on set or at home with his wife and four kids, he finds refuge at his train club at Griffith Park.
